Clement Okia is the Deputy DGTRI and also serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Environment Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. He has over 20 years working experience in training, research, project development and management. Before joining Muni University in 2020, Clement worked as a Senior Scientist and Uganda Country Representative for the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF). He previously worked as a Lecturer in Makerere University, Agroforestry Development Facilitator with ICRAF, and a Lecturer as well as Head of Environmental Forestry at Nyabyeya Forestry College.

Clement holds a PhD in Agroforestry from Bangor University, UK; and both MSc and BSc in Forestry from Makerere University, Uganda. He has provided leadership to various projects in Eastern and Southern Africa and has also provided consultancy services to various national and international agencies. He is currently serving as a member of several national and international professional bodies, including African Biochar Partnership, Global Evergreening Alliance, Uganda Forest Standards Development Group and Agroforestry and Urban Forestry Sub-Forum, among others. Clement’s current research and development work focus on food and nutritional security, ecosystem health, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and landscape restoration.
