Dr. Robert Boyle Onzima is a Lecturer of Animal Science and the Acting Head of the Department of Animal Science. He holds a PhD in Animal Breeding and Genetics, specializing in Molecular Animal Genetics from Wageningen University and Research, Wageningen, the Netherlands. He has an MSc in Animal Science and Aquaculture, also from Wageningen University and Research, and a BSc in Agriculture; specializing in Animal Science from Makerere University, Kampala.
Robert has an extensive experience in agricultural research acquired while working with the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) of Uganda where he spearheaded sustainable utilization of goat genetic resources to improve smallholder farmer livelihoods as well as conservation of animal genetic resources. He has participated in various research undertakings in NARO spanning over 13 years. He has also undertaken various short-term assignments with International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and National Animal Genetic Resources & Data Bank (NAGRC&DB).
Robert is a member of the European Association of Animal Production (EAAP), International Goat Association (IGA) and International Society of Animal Genetics (ISAG).
His areas of research interest include;Genomics, Farm Animal Genetic Biodiversity, Biodiversity conservation, Genetic improvement of livestock species, Genetic basis of disease (Immuno-genetics), breeding programs.
