Mr. Alex Aliga is an economist and a Lecturer of Economics in the faculty of education, department of curriculum and media studies. He holds a master’s degree in Economic Policy and Planning from Makerere University and is in the advanced stages of completing his PhD in Economics at the School of Economics, Makerere University.  He is also the coordinator of Environment for Development (EfD) initiative partnership between Makerere University (School of Economics and School of Agricultural & Environment Sciences) and Muni University. Prior to Joining Muni University in 2021, Alex Lectured Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, quantitative methods and Financial Econometrics at Uganda Christian University for 4 years.

He has high analytical skills and a wealth of experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and writing. He has conducted country and cross-country research and consultancies for USAID, IDRC-Canada, The World Bank, Merck international, Development pathways and Government of Uganda. He is a co-principal investigator of a 3-year IDRC funded project titled “Supporting parenting care corners in markets to reduce unpaid care work for the vulnerable business women in Uganda” and at the same time he is part of a team developing Uganda’s Industrial Master Plan (2021-2040). He has travelled widely in undertaking research activities and he is highly proficient in STATA, familiar with Survey CTo and World Bank’s Survey solutions.  

He is also a Research Associate with Ace Policy Research Institute and Policy Analysis and Development research Institute which are independent research and consultancy firms in Kampala. His research interest is mainly in Health Economics, Labour Market and Welfare outcomes, Environmental Economics (including climate change and natural resources management), and Impact evaluations.
